Report: Tennessee 4th-worst state to live in U.S.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A CNBC report claims Tennessee is the 4th-worst state to live in the United States.

The rankings were based on factors such as business environment, crime rates, health care, environment, and attractions to the state.

The report cites a high crime rate and data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting 9,500 out of every 100,000 Tennesseans die before the age of 75, a rate 30% higher than the national average.

Tennessee was also given low marks since there are no statewide protections for sexual orientation, gender identity, and antidiscrimination. On the positive side, the report cited the state's good air quality and attractions.

Arkansas ranked as the worst place in the country to live based on the methodology, followed by Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina/Mississippi (tie), and New Mexico rounding out the top ten.
