FARGO — Republican candidates campaigning to be North Dakota’s next governor will soon debate each other for the first time in the race.
Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller and U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong will face off in a one-hour debate at 7 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, April 23, on Prairie Public. The debate will air live on Prairie Public television and radio channels across the state, as well as on its app and YouTube channel.
Prairie Public News Director Dave Thompson will moderate the discussion.
Gov. Doug Burgum, also a Republican, announced this year he would not seek reelection to a third term.
Shortly after, Armstrong launched his campaign to succeed Burgum. Miller, who is Burgum’s lieutenant governor, also announced her bid with Burgum’s backing.

The North Dakota Republican Party endorsed Armstrong. He was unopposed in getting the GOP nomination, as Miller skipped the state convention.
Armstrong and Miller are both on the Republican ticket for the primary election, which is scheduled for June 11. The winner will move on to the general election in November.
There, they will face Democrat Merrill Piepkorn and independent candidate Michael Coachman.
