GOVERNMENT TO VERIFY INFORMATION ON REAL BENEFICIARIES OF EIGHT TV AND RADIO STATIONS - SPOKESMAN

08 may, 2024

The Moldovan government will check information about the real beneficiaries of eight TV channels and radio stations. Government spokesman Daniel Voda confirmed this information, which appeared in some mass media the day before.

At the same time, he denied the claims of a number of Telegram channels that the authorities are going to revoke broadcasting licenses from these media outlets.

"And other Moldovan TV channels and radio stations have also gone through this assessment, which in some cases is more in-depth. The verification of investors and beneficiaries is done to ensure national security. All the media outlets operating in Moldova submitted information about the real beneficiaries, after which the Council for the Promotion of Investment Projects of National Significance examined each submitted information, which was written in a protocol published in full on the Council's website," Voda stressed.

According to him, the mentioned channels and radio stations provided incomplete information, which is why additional data were requested.

"Also, in some cases, it was instructed to request the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office about the investigations conducted. That is, a request was sent to find out whether the actual beneficiaries of these media outlets appear in the investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. This is a standard procedure that all electronic media have gone through," the spokesman emphasized.

Additional verification is being carried out with regard to the TV channels Cinema 1, Exclusiv TV, N4 Mega TV, TV9, GRT (Gagauzia), as well as radio stations GRT FM and Retro FM.

Earlier, the Council for the Promotion of Investment Projects of National Importance initiated the verification of the beneficiaries of the TV channels and radio stations. This was done due to the fact that the actions of these economic agents affect the national security. The Council reviewed the materials of 37 economic agents from this area. As a result of the review, the broadcasting of a number of media outlets was suspended because their beneficiaries were linked to persons undergoing criminal proceedings.
