Man charged after truck driver shot on I-40 in Johnston County

A truck driver was shot in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at Woods Crossroads Road in Johnston County Friday afternoon,Captain Jeffrey Caldwell said.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Benson man is charged after a truck driver was shot in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at Woods Crossroads Road in Johnston County Friday afternoon, Captain Jeffrey Caldwell said.

The driver, who pulled over the tractor trailer and called 911, was taken to Wake Med for treatment and is in stable condition.

Authorities said the suspect, Colton Barefoot Kinsey, is in custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Authorities said the shooting was accidental, and they believe Kinsey was shooting at a target on his property.
