The Duchess of Sussex was reunited with her wedding dress in a new royal documentary last night - but it wasn't the stunning gown that had everyone talking.

Some viewers found themselves distracted by the Californian-born royal's voice and questioned whether she was 'losing her American accent'.

Others speculated whether Meghan, 37, has undergone vocal coaching to make herself sound more 'plummy' to fit in with her new royal in-laws.

'Meghan's developed a case of Madonna's accent change,' tweeted one viewer, referring to the singer's distinctive Anglo-American lilt.

Another added: '#QueenOfTheWorld Meghan has had voice coaching, she seems much softer, bit like how Kates changed too.'

Two-part ITV documentary Queen of the World, which premiered last night, focuses on the important role Her Majesty plays in the Commonwealth.

The documentary series also features interviews with the Queen's daughter, Princess Anne, and grandson Prince Harry.

While the Duchess of Cambridge was largely absent, her sister-in-law the Duchess of Sussex featured in a touching scene that saw her reunited with her wedding dress and veil - which was painstakingly embroidered with flowers of the Commonwealth.

It was the first time she had seen her breathtaking gown since the big day in May.

Meghan explained that she had discussed the idea of acknowledging the 53 nations on her 15ft wedding veil with Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller.

'It was important for me, especially now being a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated,' she said.

Meghan reveals how she saw her veil for the first time hours before the royal wedding

The Duchess of Sussex and Givenchy's Clare Waight Keller came up with the idea to have the national flowers of all 53 Commonwealth nations embroidered into her wedding veil.

'It was important for me, especially now being a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated,' she said.

The pair worked on a number of sketches together but Meghan was confident leaving the veil's final creation to Waight Keller as she trusted the designer 'implicitly'.

It meant she only saw the stunning creation - which took 500 hours to craft - on the morning of the wedding.

The piece was also a surprise for Prince Harry and other members of the royal family.

She added: 'I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn't know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.'

'I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn't know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.'

She added: 'I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction and just appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us and the role that we play, and the work that we're gonna continue to do within the Commonwealth countries.

'So, yeah, it was good news all around, I think, so I hope people liked it as much as I liked helping to create it.'

The Duchess of Sussex explained that because she trusted Waight Keller so 'implicitly', she felt confident enough to leave the finished piece in the designer's hands after just a couple of meetings.

She only saw the stunning creation - which had taken 500 hours to craft - for the first time just hours before she was set to walk down the aisle.

Explaining the planning process with Waight Keller, Meghan recalled: 'We had two or three meetings, with sketches, talking about how this could really come to life.

'We knew we wanted it to be really delicate and then at that point I just said “I trust her implicitly” with what she did, and I didn’t see it really until the morning of. So this is my first time seeing it laid like this!'

The Duchess has also shared how she asked for a patch of blue fabric from the outfit she wore on her first date with the Duke of Sussex to be stitched into her wedding gown.

Meghan's sweet 'something blue' tribute to her first date with Harry

The Duchess of Sussex revealed she paid tribute to her new husband with a very special 'something blue' on their wedding day.

Meghan, 37, asked dressmakers at Givenchy to sew in a swatch of the blue dress she wore on her first date with Prince Harry in 2016.

The pair were set up on a blind date by mutual friends and were engaged in November last year.

The details of Meghan's date dress are not known but it proved a perfect touch for the wedding.

The addition was a nod to the rhyme, 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,' which is meant to bring good luck.

Hearing the revelation, a female curator of the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace, where the dress is due to go on display, replied: 'Oh, that’s about the most romantic thing I’ve heard.'

Featured on the veil is wintersweet - which grows in the garden at Nottingham Cottage, the home she shares with Prince Harry in the grounds of Kensington Palace - and the California poppy, a nod to her native state.

As she caressed the veil, the Duchess spoke of their upcoming tour as newlyweds: 'We’re going to Australia so soon for our tour, it’s exciting.

'It’s such an exciting time for us especially with Harry’s role as youth ambassador for the Commonwealth and the travel that we intend to do and the work in all those specifically in all those different territories.

'Which is why it was so important to have some sort of example of that present with us on the day. 53 countries, oh my goodness... it will keep us busy!'

Princess Anne shares touching childhood memories of the Royal Yacht Britannia

In the first episode of Queen of the World, Princess Anne was interviewed about her first trip on the Royal Yacht Britannia in the 1950s.

At the time she and her older brother Prince Charles, then both young children, were put to work 'scrubbing and polishing'.

Watching footage of the journey, Princess Anne recalled: '(I have) very good memories of that trip…The journey out and the sea nannies that we had to stop us from launching ourselves over the side were very good memories…We were kept very busy.

'There was lots to do, all sorts of places to go and things to keep clean, lots of scrubbing and polishing, that was part of our role.'

Royal yachtsman Ellis Norrol added: 'The children they loved it, they came down to our mess for tea, they wanted to know how the lads got into their hammocks.

‘Charles had shook this lad who had been asleep and he picked him up and said “don’t you ever do that again”, picked him up by the scruff of his neck and said “don’t do that again or you’ll never live to be king” and put him down.'

Givenchy embroiderers who worked on Meghan's veil washed their hands every 30 minutes, to ensure the white silken threads remained pristine.

It's Meghan's first appearance in an official documentary as a member of the royal family.

She appears to be wearing the same navy Roland Mouret dress she was photographed in when she and her mother Doria arrived at Cliveden House on the eve of the royal wedding, but ITV confirmed to FEMAIL that the footage was filmed after Meghan's big day, and not before.
